ABE

The ABE page gives you a quick look at your benefits and a list of the things you need to do in order to get or keep getting benefits. If you have recently applied for benefits through ABE, you will see a list of your applications here.

What programs does Check My Benefits cover?
Check My Benefits can give you information about the following benefits:

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) (formerly Food Stamps) helps low-income people and families buy the food they need for good health.

State Food Assistance helps qualified individuals who do not qualify for SNAP benefits buy the food they need for good health.

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) helps families become self-sufficient. The TANF Program helps pregnant women and families with one or more dependent children. TANF can help pay for food, shelter, and expenses other than medical.

Aid for the Aged, Blind, or Disabled (AABD) provides cash benefits to an individual who is aged, legally blind, or permanently disabled that does not have sufficient income to meet basic needs.

Refugee Resettlement Program (RRP) helps persons admitted into the U.S. under a qualifying status become self-sufficient after their arrival. RRP is available to these individuals who are not eligible for TANF for a limited amount of time after their entry into the U.S.

Victims of Trafficking Torture and Other Serious Crimes (VTTC) cash assistance program helps individuals and their eligible family members pay for food, shelter, utilities, and expenses other than medical.

Healthcare Coverage (Medical) provides coverage for healthcare. If eligible you will need to enroll in a health plan. More information regarding health plans will be provided to you.

Medicaid applicants/recipients may have a deductible that must be met before coverage begins. If a deductible is required, you will be notified.

Medicaid applicants/recipients residing in a facility or expected to reside in a facility for 30 days or more will have a patient pay. The facility collects this patient pay monthly enabling you to be covered for the month.

Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a healthcare coverage for adults not meeting Medicaid eligibility requirements for age and/or disability.

Medicare Savings Program is a medical program that may pay Medicare premiums, coinsurance and/or deductibles. If you are eligible for Medicare Part-A, IDHS can determine your eligibility to Medicare Savings Program. This will be done automatically when you request Medical benefits. If you do not wish to receive medical benefits, you may request Medicare Savings Program based on your Medicare eligibility.

How often is this information updated?
The information in Check My Benefits is updated every night. If a change was made to your case today, it will not appear on ABE until tomorrow. In some cases, ABE might tell you that you need to do something you have already done. Keep in mind that it will take some time to get and process the information you provided.

If ABE tells you something different than a letter from the IDHS office where you applied for benefits, please check the date of the letter. In most cases, ABE will be more up to date than the letter that was mailed to you. If you have any questions, please call your worker.

What is the status of my benefit programs?
This section will show the benefits on your case. To read more about your benefits, click one of the 'Details' hyperlinks in the 'Summary' column below.

What verifications are due?
This section will allow you to view and upload documents. You can click on the 'View Upload History' button to view documents that have already been uploaded to your case. You can also click the 'Upload Documents' button to upload verification documents to your case.

What are my available notices?
This section will tell you about your available notices. Click the 'View notices' hyperlink to view notices sent to you in the last 12 months.

What is the status of my ABE application, Redetermination, or Reported Change?
This section will allow you to view applications, redeterminations, or change reports you have started or submitted. To continue an application, redetermination, or change report you have started, click the 'Continue' hyperlink in the 'Details/Action' column. To view and/or print an application, redetermination, or change report you have already submitted, click on the Adobe PDF icon or the 'View in HTML' hyperlink in the 'Details/Action' column.

What if I need to get in touch with my worker about my case?
To get in touch with your worker please click on the 'Contact Information' tab at the top of the page.

What if I have a question that is not answered here?
Check My Benefits gives you information about assistance programs you have applied for. If you have a general question about benefits, or if you have technical difficulties using this website, please click here.
